This monograph presents research by vienna based artist sofie thorsen born 1971 on an artistic phenomenon of postwar austria sculptures designed by artists for children to play on thorsens works make explicit the connections between abstract sculpture architecture urban planning and the aesthetics of play. Starting with photographic footage of these works most of which have disappeared from the urban environment in the meantime sofie thorsen explores since 2010 the almost forgotten typology of the play sculpture in her series of work. Sofie thorsens publication puts the focus on an artistic phenomenon in postwar vienna that has been granted little recognition to date playground sculptures for children created by artists as part of the large scale percent for art program initiated by the city of vienna.
